Brazil defeated Senegal 2–0 in an intense international friendly played on Saturday at London’s Emirates Stadium, ending the Teranga Lions’ recent unbeaten run.
The South American side dominated the opening half, with Estêvão putting Brazil ahead in the 28th minute after latching onto a deflected pass and finishing calmly. Casemiro extended the lead eight minutes later when he connected with a well-delivered free kick from Rodrygo to double the advantage.
Despite being labeled a friendly, the match was highly physical, with both sides engaging in aggressive tackles that heightened tensions throughout the game. Brazil’s attacking trio of Vinícius Jr., Rodrygo, and Estêvão caused repeated problems for Senegal’s defense, while Matheus Cunha struck the woodwork twice in the early stages. Éder Militão, deployed unusually at right-back, proved instrumental with consistent defensive and offensive contributions.
Senegal’s best chance to recover came early in the second half when Iliman Ndiaye found himself with an open goal following a miscue from goalkeeper Ederson, but his shot struck the post, denying the Lions a clear path back into the match. The miss proved costly as Brazil managed the rest of the game with composure, keeping Senegal at bay and maintaining their two-goal advantage.
The result marked Brazil’s first-ever victory over Senegal, giving coach Carlo Ancelotti a significant boost as he continues preparations for the 2026 World Cup. Senegal, playing without injured striker Habib Diallo, will look to regroup following the missed opportunity to challenge one of world football’s heavyweights. Brazil will continue their friendly series on Tuesday when they take on Tunisia in Lille.
