Members of Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA) on Friday staged a protest at the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) headquarters, demanding urgent action to address the country’s persistent electricity and water shortages.
The protesters presented a petition to NAWEC Managing Director Galo Saidy, who received the document alongside members of the utility’s senior management team.
Demonstrators expressed concern over the impact of frequent power outages and water disruptions on households and businesses, noting that many businesses are being forced to close early, resulting in economic losses.
The protest also featured calls for improved service delivery and greater accountability from NAWEC’s leadership. The demonstration ended peacefully after the petition was formally handed over to the utility company.
