Top Senegalese Musician Thione Seck dies age 66

Information has reached CTV Africa that legendary Senegalese musician Thione Seck has died after a brief illness in the city of Dakar.

Seck who battled it out with the likes of Youssou Ndour in Senegal’s Mbalax music scene for many decades died early Sunday and our source said he was 66 years of age.

Mr. Seck who is the father of the Mbalax Star Wally Seck started his music career with Star Band and Orchestra Baobab, before becoming the lead singer of the band Raam Daan.

The star owns one of the Dakar’s best-known nightclubs, Penc Mi, where he and his son Wally Seck regularly perform.
