The Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) has hosted a high-level delegation from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) as part of an academic and strategic study tour aimed at strengthening continental military cooperation and professional knowledge exchange.
The engagement, held at the Kamwala-based military institution under the theme “Africa’s Defence Industrial Base Constraints and Progress,” brought together faculty members and student officers from GAFCSC Course No. 47/2025. The delegation was led by the Deputy Commandant of the Senior Division, George Kwamena Sam.
Welcoming the visiting team, DSCSC Commandant Marcellino Chiluba expressed gratitude to the Ghanaian institution for selecting Zambia as a destination for strategic academic interaction among African military institutions.
The visit began with a detailed institutional presentation by Colonel Coordination, Elias Zulu, who outlined the college’s history, operational philosophy, academic programmes, and institutional partnerships. The briefing also highlighted the college’s collaboration with the University of Zambia and other command and staff colleges across Africa.
As part of the tour, the delegation visited several key facilities within the Kamwala campus, including the Gen David Muma Auditorium, the Gen William Sikazwe War Simulation Bunker, the Library, and the Army and Air Syndicate Chambers. The team was also briefed on a commemorative plaque erected by the African National Congress (ANC), recognising Zambia’s military and logistical support during South Africa’s liberation struggle.
Speaking during the engagement, Brigadier General Sam praised Zambia’s historic contribution to Africa’s liberation movements and regional unity, noting that the country’s role deserved greater continental recognition.
“We need to amplify more what Zambia has done for African freedom; it is not enough. I never knew the extent to which this country’s military contributed to Africa and the sacrifices made beyond the independence struggle,” he said.
He further stressed the need for African institutions to deepen cooperation beyond the Pan-African ideals championed by leaders such as Kenneth Kaunda and Kwame Nkrumah.
In his closing remarks, Brigadier General Chiluba encouraged the visiting officers to embrace the core values of Professional Military Education, which he described as character, competency, and commitment. He emphasized that discipline and integrity remain essential to effective leadership and operational success.
The DSCSC Commandant also extended appreciation to GAFCSC Commandant Jackson Wonje for facilitating the delegation’s visit to Zambia.
“There are many other countries and colleges that you could have visited, yet you chose Zambia. We are honoured to host you and privileged to share professional military knowledge with your delegation,” Brigadier General Chiluba stated.
