Historic Milestone as Gambian Armed Forces Chief Attends Sandhurst Sovereign’s Parade

LONDON, United Kingdom — The Gambia Armed Forces has marked a significant milestone following the participation of its Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Major General Ousman Gomez, at the Sovereign’s Parade at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom.
Major General Gomez attended the prestigious ceremony alongside The Gambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, H.E. Dr. Fatou Bensouda, and Major Ebrima Ceesay, MA.
The delegation also had the opportunity to engage with senior British military officials during the occasion, further highlighting the longstanding professional relationship between The Gambia and the United Kingdom.
The Sovereign’s Parade also marked the successful graduation of Cadet Omar Touray of the Gambia Armed Forces, who completed 44 weeks of rigorous military training at the renowned Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
Cadet Touray proudly participated in the passing-out ceremony alongside fellow graduates, marking an important achievement in his military career and a significant moment for the Gambia Armed Forces.
The occasion carries particular significance for The Gambia, as it marks the first time a Chief of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces has attended the Sovereign’s Parade at Sandhurst, according to the Gambia Armed Forces.
The participation of the Gambian delegation underscores the continuing professional and institutional ties between the armed forces of The Gambia and the United Kingdom.
Cadet Touray’s father was also present at the ceremony to witness his son’s graduation and celebrate the culmination of his intensive military training.
The Gambia Armed Forces congratulated Cadet Omar Touray on his successful completion of the prestigious programme and wished him continued success as he resumes his service to The Gambia.
