The Directorate of Cyber security under the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy (MoCDE), through the support from West Africa Regional Digital Integration Program (WARDIP), today commenced a three-day training on Auditing Critical National Infrastructure (CNI), marking the successful completion of the fifth and final milestone of the Critical Information Infrastructure Protection (CIIP) Project.
The training brings together key stakeholders, cybersecurity experts, and technical professionals to strengthen national capacity in auditing and safeguarding Critical Information Infrastructure (CII).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, The Director of Cybersecurity at the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy Mr. Sanusi Drammeh underscored the importance of strengthening the country’s cybersecurity resilience in the face of evolving cyber threats. He noted that building the capacity of professionals responsible for auditing and protecting critical infrastructure is essential to ensuring the security, continuity, and resilience of essential national services.
The WARDIP’s Project coordinator , Mr. serign Omar Lowe highlighted that the training forms part of the implementation of the Critical Information Infrastructure Protection (CIIP) Framework, a comprehensive national initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s cybersecurity governance and once completed, the Framework will deliver key national instruments, including a National Critical Information Infrastructure Policy, Regulatory Frameworks, Cybersecurity Standards, Contingency Plans, Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) Mapping, Risk Registers, Audit Frameworks and Capacity-building Programs.
Mr. Micheal Idemodea, the lead consultant of the project noted that,over the next three days, participants will undertake intensive sessions covering risk-based auditing methodologies, cybersecurity compliance frameworks, audit techniques, incident response, and effective reporting practices.
He therefore emphasized that, the training is designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and technical skills to identify vulnerabilities, strengthen cybersecurity governance, and enhance the protection of The Gambia’s Critical Information Infrastructure.
The Ministry remains committed to strengthening The Gambia’s cybersecurity ecosystem, enhancing institutional resilience, and building a secure, inclusive, sustainable and digitally empowered nation capable of responding effectively to emerging cyber threats.
