Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto has commenced a two-day State Visit to Finland, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries in key areas including education, climate action, digital innovation, trade and sustainable development.
President Ruto was officially received at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki by Finnish President Alexander Stubb and First Lady Suzanne Innes-Stubb at the start of the visit.
The Kenyan leader described the visit as a reaffirmation of the strong and longstanding partnership between Kenya and Finland, underscoring the commitment of both nations to deepen collaboration on issues that are critical to economic growth and sustainable development.
“We were officially received at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki by President Alexander Stubb and First Lady Suzanne Innes-Stubb at the commencement of our two-day State Visit to Finland,” President Ruto said.
He noted that the visit provides an opportunity for the two countries to strengthen cooperation in sectors that are central to their development agendas, including education, climate resilience, technological advancement and trade.
“This visit reaffirms the strong and enduring partnership between Kenya and Finland, and our shared commitment to deepen cooperation in education, climate action, digital innovation, trade and sustainable development, creating new opportunities for our peoples and contributing to shared prosperity,” he added.
The State Visit is expected to feature high-level discussions between the two governments on expanding economic cooperation, promoting investment opportunities and enhancing collaboration in innovation and green development.
Kenya and Finland have maintained cordial diplomatic relations over the years, working together on development programmes, environmental sustainability initiatives and educational partnerships. The visit is expected to further strengthen these ties while exploring new avenues for cooperation in emerging sectors such as digital technology and renewable energy.
Observers say the engagement reflects Kenya’s broader efforts to deepen partnerships with European countries and attract investments that support economic transformation and job creation.
The visit is scheduled to conclude after a series of bilateral meetings and engagements aimed at advancing the shared interests of both nations and fostering greater cooperation between their peoples.
