Major infrastructure projects will continue to shape The Gambiaโs development agenda in 2026, with Government committing billions to roads, energy and transport modernisation. Presenting the budget today at the National Assembly, Minister Seedy K.M. Keita said the state remains focused on closing the infrastructure deficit while ensuring long-term sustainability.
The Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure will receive D2 billion, including D1.58 billion for road construction, D215 million for land compensation, and D77 million for road project consultancies. The minister confirmed that 355 kilometres of priority roads, including the Kiang West, Hakalang and Kabbada stretches, have reached a 70-percent completion rate.
In the energy sector, the Government has allocated D1.5 billion, including a D1 billion electricity subsidy to NAWEC. Key achievements in 2025 include the completion of the nationโs first 225kV OMVG transmission line, the commissioning of the 23MW Jambur Solar Plant, and progress toward the 150MW Soma Solar Park.
Government also announced plans to begin Phase 3 of the OIC Roads Project, advance the Sanyang Deep Seaport, and commence designs for an ultramodern airport terminal to be delivered through Public-Private Partnership.
On water supply, 68 solar-powered water systems have been completed, serving over 250,000 rural residents, with more expansion planned in 2026.
