Sering Modou Njie on Tuesday held a series of high-level bilateral and development engagements with diplomats, United Nations officials and private sector actors as part of efforts to deepen international cooperation and advance The Gambia’s foreign policy and development agenda.

The meetings, held in Banjul, focused on strengthening diplomatic ties, expanding development partnerships and attracting investment opportunities in key sectors including education, security reforms and renewable energy.

The Foreign Minister first received Ms. Julita Baś, Chargée d’Affaires and Head of Mission of the Embassy of Poland in Dakar, accompanied by Deputy Head of Mission Ms. Anna Rosenthal and Poland’s Honorary Consul to The Gambia, Mr. Hussein Diab Ghanem.

Discussions centred on enhancing bilateral relations between The Gambia and Poland, with both sides exploring opportunities for cooperation in institutional support, capacity building and security sector reforms.

Minister Njie expressed appreciation to the Polish Government for its continued support and highlighted the importance of expanding collaboration in education, particularly through scholarship programmes and academic exchange initiatives.

The Minister later received Munsef M.H. Naseeb, Ambassador of Libya to The Gambia, who paid a farewell courtesy call following the completion of his diplomatic tenure.

Ambassador Naseeb thanked the Gambian government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the cooperation extended to him during his stay in the country and praised the longstanding relations between the two nations.

The discussions also touched on migration issues and broader areas of bilateral cooperation. Minister Njie commended the ambassador for his contribution toward strengthening ties between The Gambia and Libya and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continued engagement with Tripoli.

Minister Njie also held talks with Klaus Botzet, Ambassador of Germany to The Gambia, where discussions focused on consolidating the longstanding relationship between the two countries and strengthening ongoing cooperation.

The Foreign Minister further met with Mr. Karl Frederick Paul, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in The Gambia, to discuss development cooperation and collaboration between the UN system and the Gambian government.

In a separate engagement, Minister Njie met with Ms. Mandisa Mashologu, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme, who briefed him on the agency’s activities and ongoing development interventions supporting The Gambia’s national development priorities.

The day’s engagements concluded with a meeting between the Foreign Minister and Turkish entrepreneur Mr. Dennis Elverir, with discussions focusing on investment opportunities in renewable and solar energy as well as broader economic cooperation aimed at supporting The Gambia’s development agenda.

The series of meetings highlights the government’s intensified diplomatic outreach as it seeks to strengthen global partnerships, attract development support and position The Gambia as a growing destination for international cooperation and investment.
