Banjul, July 1, 2026 – The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has officially registered UNITE as a political party in The Gambia, effective 1st July 2026, in accordance with Section 106 of the Elections Act 2025.

The registration was confirmed in a letter signed by IEC Chairman Joseph Colley, notifying the party that it had successfully met the legal requirements for registration.

According to the IEC, the party will be led by Talib Ahmed Bensouda, while its secretariat is located in Kololi (CFXJ = 502). The party will operate under the acronym UNITE.

The party’s official colours are one horizontal red stripe, one horizontal white stripe, and one horizontal blue stripe. Its symbol is two upward-facing palms holding cola nuts, while its motto is “Unite for Nation, Integrity, Transformation and Equality.”

The registration officially qualifies UNITE to participate in The Gambia’s political process, subject to compliance with the country’s electoral laws and regulations. The IEC also expressed hope for the party’s cooperation as it joins other registered political parties in promoting democratic governance.

The registration comes as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the country’s upcoming electoral cycle.
