The Governments of The Gambia and Senegal are set to hold the Fourth Session of the Senegalo-Gambian Presidential Council Meeting (PCM) in Dakar from 9 to 12 June 2026, in a move aimed at further strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing shared development goals.
The announcement was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, which described the Presidential Council Meeting as the highest bilateral cooperation mechanism between the two neighbouring countries.
According to the ministry, the Council serves as a strategic platform for promoting the longstanding bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between The Gambia and Senegal while addressing issues of mutual interest and regional significance.
“The Presidential Council Meeting remains the highest bilateral cooperation mechanism between the Republic of The Gambia and the Republic of Senegal,” the ministry stated.
Established to deepen collaboration between the two countries, the Council focuses on key areas including regional integration, peace and security, trade, transport, energy, education, culture and people-to-people relations.
The four-day meeting will begin with a session of senior officials tasked with reviewing progress on previous agreements and identifying areas for further cooperation. This will be followed by a ministerial session before culminating in a Presidential Council Meeting on 12 June, where the Heads of State of both countries are expected to review bilateral relations and provide strategic direction on priority areas of cooperation.
The Government of The Gambia said it attaches significant importance to the Presidential Council Meeting process, noting that it has proven to be an effective mechanism for strengthening bilateral relations and resolving issues affecting the common interests of both nations.
The forthcoming meeting follows the successful Third Session of the Presidential Council Meeting, which was held in Banjul from 30 July to 1 August 2023. During that session, both governments reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation and strengthening the historic ties that bind the two countries.
Relations between The Gambia and Senegal are widely regarded as among the strongest in the region, underpinned by shared history, culture, geography and economic interests. The two countries have continued to collaborate on issues ranging from cross-border security and trade facilitation to infrastructure development and regional integration.
As preparations continue in Dakar, expectations are high that the Fourth Session of the Presidential Council Meeting will produce concrete outcomes that further deepen cooperation and contribute to the prosperity and stability of both countries.
The Government of The Gambia expressed optimism that the meeting will be successful and productive, reaffirming its commitment to working closely with Senegal in advancing the shared aspirations of the two sister republics.
