A high-level multisectoral technical mission from Guinea-Bissau has arrived in Banjul ahead of the 15th Extraordinary Session of the Council of Ministers of the Organisation pour la Mise en Valeur du fleuve Gambie, scheduled for May 22 in the Gambian capital.
The delegation, hosted by the Embassy of Guinea-Bissau in The Gambia, included senior officials and technical experts from Guinea-Bissau’s Ministries of Natural Resources, Energy and Finance, as well as the Administrative and Finance Manager of OMVG.
The visit comes amid intensified preparations for the regional summit, which is expected to bring together ministers and experts from member states to discuss critical issues surrounding regional energy cooperation, water resource management and infrastructure development within the OMVG framework.
According to officials, the delegation held a strategic technical consultation meeting at the embassy focused on aligning logistical and organizational arrangements ahead of the ministerial gathering.
The discussions were described as crucial in strengthening coordination between Guinea-Bissau’s diplomatic and technical sectors as the country positions itself to defend and advance its national interests during the high-level regional talks.
The official OMVG programme in Banjul will begin with Expert Committee meetings running from May 18 to 21, before culminating in the High-Level Council of Ministers session on May 22 at a hotel in the Gambian capital.
The meeting is expected to address major sub-regional priorities linked to energy integration, water governance and sustainable development among member states.
Regional observers say the upcoming summit comes at a critical moment as West African countries increasingly seek stronger cooperation on shared natural resources, electricity access and climate resilience amid mounting economic and environmental pressures.
The OMVG, which brings together The Gambia, Senegal, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau, remains one of the key regional institutions driving cross-border development projects in the sub-region.
